This is a Dual Master’s Degree Program. The student is awarded an MPH Degree from International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, Italy, and MPH in Tropical Medicine from James Lind Institute, Switzerland.

 

The JLI MPH in Tropical Medicine program has been developed for current healthcare professionals and students who aspire to make a career in this important discipline of medicine. The program is directed towards the skill-building and practice of tropical medicine and community healthcare delivery. This program also provides opportunities for engaging in research through focused projects in the field. There is an emphasis on tropical diseases, infections, surveillance and informatics in healthcare.

JLI has consulted experts in public health and tropical medicine while developing this program and most of the faculty have significant experience in this domain. Not only is there a focus on developing fundamental concepts in tropical medicine, but also an exposure to more sophisticated areas of learning such as interdisciplinary approach to solving challenges related to infectious diseases, implementation of evidence-based recommendations for infectious and non-infectious diseases, immunization policy and practice, and several other key areas of knowledge and skills needed by professionals who practice tropical medicine.

 

This program is also an excellent choice for physicians, nurses, allied healthcare workers and medical students who have an interest in tropical health.

 

The James Lind Institute and the International Telematic University, UNINETTUNO, Rome, Italy (Università Telematica Internazionale UniNettuno ‘UTIU’) have collaborated to bring to you a very unique opportunity to earn a Master’s degree in Public Health via the Master of Science in Public Health Management Program. Alongside this MPH Degree, this program leads to the award of a Master of Public Health in Tropical Medicine from James Lind Institute.

Pathway for MPH in Tropical Medicine

 

Stage 1: Complete Master of Science in Public Health Management (MPH)

 

Upon enrollment in this program students will first complete the Advanced Diploma in Public Health Management which typically is completed in 36 weeks and is comprised of 42 ECTS Credits. This program comprises of 18 Core Courses and 3 Elective Courses chosen from a list of Elective Courses available to the student. The student will then transfer to International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, Rome, Italy to complete the MPH program with the award of 90 ECTS Credits. This is explained in detail here.

 

Stage 2: Complete Specialization in Tropical Medicine

 

Upon completion of the MPH program at International Telematic University UNINETTUNO, the student will initiate a specialization in Maternal and Child Health at James Lind Institute. This specialization earns the student a total of 48 ECTS Credits. Combining these 48 ECTS Credits with 42 ECTS credits earned from Advanced Diploma in Public Health Management, a total of 90 ECTS credits leads to the award of Master of Public Health in Tropical Medicine from James Lind Institute, Switzerland.

The JLI MPH in Tropical Medicine program is designed in a way so it’s helpful for new graduates as well as healthcare professionals such as physicians, nurses, and allied healthcare workers. After the completion of this program, students are expected to have a thorough understanding of tropical diseases, the causal relationships and the societal burden of all tropical diseases.  Since most of the tropical diseases are infections or infestations, tropical medicine specialists are expected to have strong knowledge of infectious diseases.  Besides treatment, there is a strong emphasis on early detection through laboratory testing and thus a good part of tropical medicine jobs are in laboratory areas such as microbiology, virology, etc. Tropical health specialists are also involved in the prevention of tropical infections and this is an excellent career option for those who are passionate about developing smart and innovative solutions for the prevention of infections.
