Maternal and Child Health (MCH) professionals work in healthcare set-ups that are focused primarily on the care of mothers and children. The support that the MCH professionals provide is a part of the broader delivery of public health through community health delivery system. Within the community healthcare set-up, MCH professionals assume significant responsibilities to maintain and enhance the quality of care that is being provided to mothers and children.
It is not only the technical skills that are required in being successful as an MCH professional. As is true for many other branches of public health, MCH professionals are required to be skilled communicators, active listeners, and have high Emotional Quotient (EQ). These attributes are a mix of innate personality and high-quality training that exposes the MCH professionals to the required behaviors needed to be successful in their roles. MCH specialists are expected to engage in outreach programs, education and training related activities, social services, immunization and related programs, maternity-related activities among many others.
The JLI Dual Degree MPH with a specialization in Maternal and Child Health (MCH) is designed to suit healthcare professionals or fresh graduates who aspire to work in MCH. The program curriculum provides the opportunity to the students to learn about the fundamentals of MCH and the application of MCH skills in healthcare delivery.
