Introduction to the Event

“Women’s Mental Health and Well-being in the Workplace – Accelerate Action by March 2025” is a significant issue that addresses both mental health and gender equality in the workplace. As the world becomes more aware of the need of addressing mental health, there is a greater emphasis on how it affects women specifically, in the workplace. As a result, accelerating progress in this area by the year 2025 is crucial for creating healthier, more inclusive workplaces.

 

Event Objectives:

  1. To Raise Awareness and Reduce Stigma that address women’s issues such as discrimination, harassment, and work-family balance, etc.
  2. To establish an open environment for support and conversation.
  3. To discuss Workplace Policies Supporting Mental Health within Organizations that promote women’s well-being, such as maternity leave, childcare assistance, work-life balance accommodations, flexible work arrangements, and mental health days.
  4. To emphasize on promoting women to leadership positions, as diverse leadership teams are better able to address concerns of mental health and workplace well-being.
  5. To highlight Training programs for managers to raise their understanding of mental health concerns, with a focus on how they can support the mental health of female employees.

 

Target Audience

The target audience for this session included early researchers, policymakers, practitioners in the healthcare industry, public health experts, and students from research background.

Guest Speaker

Joy Muhia, MSc Global Mental Health, Mental Health Innovation Network Co-ordinator, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, United Kingdom

 

After the formal welcoming of the participants, guests, and attendees of the conference by the moderator of the event Dr. Anahita Ali, the guest speaker then took over the session and started with a powerpoint presentation. She stated that mental health and well-being is important in the workplace because it affects everyone and not just women. She also highlighted the importance of mental health by presenting latest statistics from Bloom UK survey. Poor workplace conditions, lack of awareness, lacking workplace policies were a few challenges discussed by Joy. Finally, to address those challenges, various important steps were discussed including access to resources, support systems, creating mental health champions, understanding differences and diversities and much more.
