Faculty of Transformational Economics at JLI organized an expert session titled “Integrating Environmental Sustainability and Public Health Goals” on August 8, 2024. The expert for the session was Dr Julia Kim a Global Health and Wellbeing Economics consultant and moderated Dr Sonal Katyal- Program Director- Faculty of Transformational Economics.

Dr Julia Kim discussed well-being economies, emphasizing gross national happiness in Bhutan and advocating for a shift from GDP to holistic well-being. Dr Julia Kim emphasized the importance of addressing the economic systems contributing to health issues, particularly tropical diseases and growing health inequalities. She urged for a shift towards systems thinking and activism. Dr. Kim emphasized the need for a sustainable economic model which can deliver basic healthcare to everyone and reduce the unsustainable and expensive biomedical model.
